Work Ready Workshops for Students
The Work-Ready Certificate Program for students is a three-week workshop for 90 minutes each day after school in the Career Center. The program helps students locate job opportunities, learn interview skills and develop a resume. Workshop topics include:
- Time Management
- Resume Writing
- Job Search & Applications
- Cover Letters
- Social Media
- Work Ethic
- Customer Service
- Teamwork
- Dress for Success
- Interview Techniques
- Mock Interviews
The Work-Ready Certificate program is coordinated by the Solano County Office of Education and is offered at three VUSD high schools. VUSD high school students may apply to attend Work-Ready workshops at any location.

Career and Technical Education (CTE) Pathways
VUSD provides students options and support for continued learning and career preparation after graduation. Many CTE pathways result in earned certifications, work experience and CTE distinction at graduation. VUSD currently offers CTE pathways in the following fields:
Animal Care and Services, Automotive Technology, Building and Construction, Culinary Arts, Digital Media, Engineering and Architecture, Kinesiology, and Medical Science. View a complete list of CTE courses available for VUSD students.
Project Inspire Career Events
For 10th Grade Students: 275 Tenth Grade students in Vacaville Unified job shadowed at two businesses of their choice February 1, 2019. The event, named Inspire: Dreams Move Forward, is part of a series of events intended to give students hands-on experience and exposure to a variety of professional fields. Students had the option of visiting the following organizations:
- Manufacturing and Robotics
- Health Care
- Biotechnology
- Utilities and Energy
- Public Safety
- Entertainment
- Sea Transportation Maintenance
- Engineering
Exposure to work environments helps 10th grade students get a better understanding of Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways that they may want to explore in high school and beyond.
For 8th Grade Students: All 8th grade Vacaville Unified students are transported to this event, which is intended to give hands-on experience in a wide variety of career fields. Setting potential career goals in 8th grade helps students become more engaged in their high school curriculum. This engagement leads to greater success in high school, and beyond. A pre-assessment is given to each student to identify their areas of career interest. During the event, business are designated according to areas of interest:

Arts & Communication
Education, Human Services & Medical Services
Entrepreneurial, Management, Law, & Sales
Helping Services
Both Inspire events are made possible through partnerships with local Chambers of Commerce, the Solano County Office of Education and countless local businesses and organization supporting this effort.
