Facilities Projects

VUSD Central Kitchen

The Vacaville Unified School District is constructing a Central Kitchen on Tulare on the District lot adjacent to the Fairmont Elementary School campus. This facility is currently under construction and is scheduled to be completed in January 2027. The completed facility will be approximately 11,000 sq feet and will house the District's Child Nutrition department offices, main comissary, and food storage facility. When completed, the Central Kitchen will allow the VUSD to continue to serve approximately 13,000 high-quality, nutritious meals per day to all of our students across Vacaville. This project is funded via several funding streams including State Student Nutrition Funding (Fund 13, Kitchen Infrastructure and Training Funds), One-time Federal Funding, Developer Fees, and State Facilities Fund Program Reimbursements).

2025 Portable Projects

During the 2024-2025 school year, VUSD planned and constructed new portable buildings at four sites - Orchard, Sierra Vista, Callison, and Browns Valley. Orchard and Callison received new Transitional Kindergarten (TK) classrooms rooms and existing Callison portables and walkways were modrnized. Two standard classrooms and a music room were added at Sierra Vista and Browns Valley added a small restroom building. These projects provide some much needed student housing for our growing district and our growing TK programs. All of these proejcts were funded via one or more of the following sources: (Remaining Measure A, Developer Fees, Capital Facilities Funding - State Facilities Program Reimbursements).

Eugene Padan Elementary School Kitchen Modernization

Eugene Padan Elementary School was built in 1965 and since then, the kitchen has not had a meaningful modernization. Since the advent of universal school feeding in 2021, the small kitchen at Padan has not been sufficient to keep up with the demand and quality of VUSD's fresh and nutritious offerings. To improve this situation, in 2025 VUSD acquired state Kitchen and Infrastrucutre funding to upgrade kitchens. We chose to modernize the Padan Kitchen for it's high need and high volume output of meals, as well as it's aged finishes and infrastructure, and it's lack of adequate refrigerated storage.  The kitchen was fully remodeled with new utilities and equipment, as well as an upgraded ADA compliant restroom , removing asbestos containing materials, and adding ~200 sq ft of new refrigerated storage. Construction was completed in Summer of 2025 and the kitchen is open and operating for the new schoool year.
