We had a great turnout of students, families, and community members at the Steve Green Memorial Gymnasium Ribbon Cutting this past Thursday. As everyone walked on campus, they could hear the drum line from the parking lot and see the cheerleaders with their pom poms and spirited dancing. VHS Link Crew was scattered around campus, offering directions to those looking for the ceremony.
The choir started the event with the VHS alma mater then Principal
Adam Wight took the microphone to welcome guests. We heard speeches from Superintendent Jane Shamieh, Associate Superintendent Ed Santopadre, and Phil Green, the younger brother of Steven Green. Before the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon, Principal Wight said to the crowd, "Steven would have one thing to ask if he were here with us." Then, on the sound system, everyone could hear Steve Green's voice chanting, "Who ya rootin' for."
After the ribbon cutting, everyone had an opportunity to walk inside the new gymnasium and shoot a few hoops. The VUSD Child Nutrition Department arranged pastries, cookies, and sandwiches for attendees to enjoy.
