IntraDistrict Transfer Requests (Within VUSD)

IntraDistrict Attendance Agreement Practices and Priorities

The Vacaville Unified School District's IntraDistrict Attendance Agreement offers parents and legal guardians, residing within district boundaries, the opportunity to apply to the school that they would like their child to attend within VUSD. To be considered, parents must submit an IntraDistrict Attendance Agreement for approval.

Due to state regulations Open Enrollment is no longer an option. Students who have an approved Open Enrollment Agreement within our District will be grandfathered in.

As its first priority, VUSD will attempt to accommodate all children within each school's attendance area according to existing class-size and program mandates. Once resident students have been placed and space has been deemed available at the grade level and/or program, selection of new students into the school will be based on the following criteria:

  1. Administrative placements
  2. VUSD students in good standing who are siblings of any student currently in attendance at a school and who will continue to be enrolled at the same school next year (concurrent enrollment).
  3. VUSD students in good standing who have attended a school continuously for at least one school year, but have moved into another school's attendance area within the District.
  4. VUSD students who are in good standing and who are siblings of a student who will be exiting the requested school at the end of the year of an IntraDistrict Agreement (consecutive enrollment)
  5. All other VUSD student requests

InterDistrict Transfer Requests (Outside VUSD)

InterDistrict Attendance Permits into Vacaville Unified School District from another District:

A parent or legal guardian of a student residing outside of the Vacaville Unified School District (VUSD) school boundaries may request a transfer for that student to attend school in VUSD from another district by obtaining an Approved InterDistrict Attendance Permit application from their resident school district.

Once the district of residence approves your student's release, that permit is sent directly to VUSD for processing by the Student Attendance and Welfare Department. Additionally, parents/guardians are required to provide the student's attendance and grades for the current school year and all discipline records to VUSD before the permit will be considered by VUSD. Approval will be granted based on space availability, transcripts/grades, and discipline and attendance records. Please note that an approval of the InterDistrict Permit does not guarantee enrollment at the requested school. Once the permit is processed, parents/guardians will be notified by mail. If your student's new InterDistrict Attendance Permit is denied, you have a right to appeal, in writing, to the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services within 10 school days of the denial letter. Information regarding this process can be found on the enrollment page of our district's website. The time line for processing incoming InterDistrict Attendance Permits will be determined at a later date.

Incomplete requests and failure of the parent to meet timelines established shall be deemed an abandonment of the permit request and will not be processed. Families are required to register their student at their school of residence in the event that the InterDistrict Attendance Permit cannot be granted.

Once an InterDistrict Attendance Permit has been approved, it is not necessary to renew it each school year, unless the Permit is from a District outside of the boundaries of Solano County Office of Education, or when a student is:

  • entering Middle School

  • entering High School

  • entering Kindergarten and student was previously enrolled in T-K on an approved InterDistrict Attendance Permit.

It is important to know that an InterDistrict Attendance Permit can be revoked at any time during the school year for non-compliance (please see AR 5117).

InterDistrict Attendance Permits from Vacaville Unified School District to another District (Release Out Permit):

Interdistrict Release Out Permits for the current school year are available and processed throughout the school year. Interdistrict Releases Out Permits for the 2024-2025 school year will begin being processed January 8, 2024, and continue throughout the 2024-2025 school year. A parent or legal guardian of a student residing in the Vacaville Unified School District (VUSD) school boundary may request a transfer for that student to attend school in another district by obtaining an approved InterDistrict Attendance Permit application from VUSD. The InterDistrict Attendance Permit must be completed and submitted to the Student Attendance and Welfare Department located at the VUSD Educational Services Center, 401 Nut Tree Road, Vacaville, CA 95687 in person, via fax at (707) 453-7115 or emailed to [email protected]. Once the application has been processed, it is forwarded to the requested district for their approval. Questions regarding the status or processing of the InterDistrict Permit will need to be directed to the requested District.

Families are required to register their student at their school of residence in the event that the InterDistrict Attendance Permit cannot be granted.

Depending on the District you are requesting enrollment in, you may be required to renew the Permit each school year. It is important to know that an InterDistrict Attendance Permit can be revoked at any time during the school year for non-compliance.
