ELC Volunteers


Denise Fracchia is a representative of Vacaville Unified School District.  She is a teacher on special assignment working as an English Learner Literacy Coach. Her interest in this program sparked from a desire to bridge the cultural barriers that parents, students, and teachers all face when they have no language in common. English Language Community Connection is an important part of her goals to help Hispanic parents learn the importance of involvement in their children’s education and success. gomezFr. Humberto Gomez, a native of Jalisco, Mexico  has helped make these connections possible through his work as the Priest at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Helping provide the support, space and spiritual presence, the Education Forum has thrived with his perspective and leadership along the way.
vargasEstefan and Graciela Vargas serve as a parent liaisons for the English Learner Community. With a background and story of their own, they bring the experience of raising and successfully supporting their children through school in America. They both serve on the District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC) as resources to parents and teachers of English Learner students.
mcguireDebby McGuire is an active community member in Vacaville and serves as the VUSD Wellness Coordinator. She manages grant funding from Kaiser Permanente which includes outreach to St. Mary’s Forum program with healthy snacks and incentives to promote healthy eating and physical activity.
hendersonLisette Estrella-Henderson is the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services for the Solano County Office of Education.  In this position one of her major duties is to provide technical assistance and support for the effective implementation of English Learner programs with a focus on development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of effectiveness. She also supports the development of parent involvement and engagement strategies throughout the county.
Jane LuickJane Luick “As the English Learner Program Coordinator, I am responsible for helping to assure that the school district is in compliance with the state regulations regarding English Learners.  This includes helping to establish and coordinate the parent groups that must take place at most of the district’s schools and at the district level.  Testing, translations, parent notifications, and teacher education are also part of my responsibilities.
Shirley Lewis is the Dean of the Vacaville-Solano Community College. Dr. Lewis has served as an educational administrator for over 24 years in California community colleges. A graduate of Vacaville High School, Dr. Lewis has a strong interest in access and success of underrepresented students in higher education. She is honored to have the opportunity to work on behalf of Solano Community College with the Vacaville Unified School District and the English Learner parent population in Vacaville.
