Vacaville Unified School District Governing Board


The Vacaville Unified School District Governing Board consists of seven members. School Board elections are held on even-numbered years, with members elected to serve staggered four-year terms.

Basic functions of the Board are to establish the policies by which the schools of the District are to be administered and to select the Superintendent and staff who will implement those policies. The Board shall be responsible for the organization and operation of the District in conformity with the rules and regulations of the State Board of Education, and the laws of the State and Federal Government.

Board Meetings

Board meetings will be held at the VUSD Educational Services Center, located at 401 Nut Tree Drive, and are generally held the first and third Thursday of each month. During the months of January, February, July, and December there is only one meeting due to school breaks/holidays. Also, during the month of June the meetings will be held on the second and fourth Thursdays. Special meetings are called as needed. Please call the Superintendent's Office at 453-6101 to verify meeting dates, times and locations.

Superintendent’s Comments/Correspondence

  • Superintendent Shamieh introduced newly-appointed administrator Tiffany Donahue, Adult Education Principal.

  • Anti-Vaping Project Update: Director of Communications Elaine Kong provided an update on the district’s anti-vaping campaign.

  • Measure A Projects Update: Chief Facilities, Maintenance & Operations Officer Dan Banowetz provided an update on Measure A projects, phases 3 and 4.

Closed Session Report Out

Vice President Jansen reported that the Board approved the following administrative appointment during closed session: Callie Austin as Child Nutrition Supervisor. Congratulations and welcome to Callie!


Student/Staff Recognitions

  • Adult Education Principal Tiffany Donahue honored former students Janithzia Contreras and Brenda Castro, now current VUSD employees.

  • Alamo Elementary School 6th grade teacher Julie George honored Outstanding Student Alexa Rafferty.

School Reports and Presentations

  • Alamo Elementary School Report: Principal Derek Wickliff and Alamo students provided an overview of the school's AVID program, special events, staffing, and PTA activities. Mr. Wickliff also shared standardized test scores and attendance, behavior and English Language Learner progress data. The Alamo chorus, led by Jonathan Burton, also performed for the Board and attendees.

  • Buckingham Charter Magnet High School Student Presentations: Five Graphic Design students from Nadja Fitchorn’s class presented banner design projects, which will be used by the district for recruitment fairs and other events. The Board and Administration chose Logan Arcilla’s banner as the winning student design.

Action Items – the following items were approved by the Board:

  1. Approval of the 2020 At-Promise Student Program and Facilities Proposal.

  2. Approval of New Board Policy 5111.1, District Residency.

  3. Approval of Appointments to the Measure A Citizens’ Oversight Committee (COC).

  4. Approval of Contract Amendment #6 with Architectural Nexus, Inc. for the Sierra Vista K-8 New Multipurpose Room and Science Classrooms Project.
