District Safety Information

The Vacaville Unified School District values its strong, collaborative partnerships with the City of Vacaville and the Vacaville Police and Fire Departments. We work hand-in-hand with all emergency response agencies to ensure a coordinated and effective response in the event of any crisis or emergency.

As outlined in the Vacaville Unified School District’s Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP), we are committed to ensuring that every student and staff member feels safe, supported, and connected at school. VUSD is proud to be a strong community partner in efforts to create and maintain a safe, healthy environment for all.

We have built and sustained close partnerships with the City of Vacaville, as well as the Vacaville Police and Fire Departments. Our schools work closely with all emergency responders to ensure a coordinated response in the event of a crisis or emergency.

Each school has a detailed emergency plan that outlines specific roles and responsibilities for a wide range of emergency situations.

Safety procedures are implemented based on the type of emergency. Below, you’ll find information about the protocols we follow. While every situation is unique, our staff may adapt their response as needed to ensure the safety of all students and staff.

OFF SITE REUNIFICATION

In the rare instance that students are transported or relocated to an off-site location due to an emergency, families will be notified of the location and pickup time for their child/children. VUSD will inform parents of the pick-up location using ParentSquare and social media, which will be based on the contact information parents provided during the annual registration process.

SCHOOL SITE EMERGENCY CONTAINER

Each school site has an "Emergency Container" on its campus. Basic supplies for search and rescue, as well as water and first aid kits, are stored in the container in case of an actual emergency. Staff are prepared to stay with students in the event of an emergency, until they are picked up, released to parents or guardians, or adults listed on their child's emergency card. Emergency contact information must be updated annually or as needed throughout the year. Please discuss with your child in advance who is listed on their emergency card and what the plan would be in the event of an emergency.

COMMUNICATION IN AN EMERGENCY

In the event of an emergency, VUSD will communicate information with parents using:

Email notifications
Announcements on social media and ParentSquare.
Follow us on Facebook and Instagram.

POWER OUTAGE

Schools can remain open during a power outage if conditions are favorable and necessary accommodations are made for student safety and nutrition. If a power outage poses a threat to the safety of students or staff, district leadership will notify families promptly about any necessary school modifications or closures.

COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL SAFETY

Each year, all school sites develop and update their comprehensive school safety plan. This plan is discussed, reviewed and approved by the school site council. These plans are detailed and describe the school’s response to various events. If you are interested in being part of the school site council or learning more about your school's site plan, please contact your school site administration.

DISTRICT SAFETY TEAM

The VUSD District Safety Team meets weekly to review safety protocols, procedures, supplies, and requests from school sites.
