The Vacaville Unified School District Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that Ed Santopadre is the next Superintendent of the Vacaville Unified School District. Contract negotiations finished on October 6, 2022 and Mr. Santopadres’ tenure will start July 1, 2023. Mr. Santopadre succeeds Dr. Jane Shamieh who will retire on June 30, 2023 after eight years of exemplary service as the District’s Superintendent.

Ed Santopadre Brings 24 Years of Public Education Service

Vacaville, CA October 6, 2022 - The Vacaville Unified School District Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that Ed Santopadre is the next Superintendent of the Vacaville Unified School District. Contract negotiations finished on October 6, 2022 and Mr. Santopadre's tenure will start July 1, 2023. Mr. Santopadre succeeds Dr. Jane Shamieh who will retire on June 30, 2023 after eight years of exemplary service as the District’s Superintendent. 

“The Board is confident that Mr. Santopadre is the right person to lead the District into the future, building upon our excellent educational programs,” said Board President John Jansen. 

Mr. Santopadre has been in the District for 24 years. For the last 2 years, he has served as the District’s Associate Superintendent, leading the Educational Services Department. Prior to becoming Associate Superintendent, he was the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, Principal of Vacaville High School for 9 years, and Assistant Principal of Vacaville High School. Under his leadership, Mr. Santopadre’s team improved academic outcomes for all students. He worked with staff to develop systems such as new grading practices and introduced the AVID program and AP Capstone program. Mr. Santopadre’s commitment to student achievement improved the graduation rate from 86.1% to 95.6%. Before serving as an administrator, Mr. Santopadre taught and coached at Vacaville High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Saint Mary’s College of California and a Master degree in Education from Touro University. 

Mr. Santopadre is a part of numerous committees/organizations, including the City of Vacaville Economic Development Advisory, Vacaville Rotary, Sac-Joaquin Section Budget Advisory Committee. He has a deep-rooted commitment to the success of our students and the significant role that our district plays in the community of Vacaville. 

Approval of Ed Santopadre’s contract occurred on October 6, 2022, at a regular meeting of the Governing Board.

“We are really lucky that Jane will be here for the remainder of the 22-23 school year and they will work together. We will look forward to working with Ed Santopadre as the next Superintendent of VUSD,” said President Jansen.
