Vacaville, CA. - The incoming Principal at Edwin Markham Elementary School is excited to come home.

The Vacaville Unified School District Board of Education named Jose Bermudez Markham’s new Principal during their regular meeting last night.

Bermudez, who started his career in Solano County as a Kindergarten teacher, stated, “It is so very exciting to rejoin the Vacaville Unified School District (VUSD) after a year of working in the furtherance of education with the State of California.”

Prior to him working for the State, Bermudez spent three years as Principal with the Markham community and he has shared that he couldn't be more ready to return to  these familiar students and families.

I am honored to have the opportunity to come back home and lead a school with such a rich tradition of education,” Bermudez said. “I can’t wait to reconnect with familiar faces and meet all of the new people who are part of the Markham Community.”

Bermudez will spend time with fellow VUSD Principals and other site administration this summer to reconnect and catch up to speed on all of the latest initiatives. He has said that his primary goal is to “Focus on character education initiatives, Common Core skills, the use of data to drive instruction, and to provide consistent implementation of the curriculum in a rigorous manner so that we can continue to increase student achievement for all.”

Bermudez received a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Sacramento State University and served as a classroom educator for eight years. Further, Bermudez holds a Masters in Education from the University of California, Davis.
