Superintendent’s Comments/Correspondence

Superintendent Shamieh introduced newly-appointed administrators Ed Santopadre, Assistant Superintendent, Educational Services, and Cicely Rodda, Principal, Padan Elementary School.

 

Superintendent Shamieh also shared photos and information regarding the following Teachers and Classified Employees of the Year: Andrew Bower and Alicia Gonzalez, Country High; Jennie McCallister and Stephanie Callazo, Hemlock/ACE; Maya Wildgoose and Cathy Reed, Vacaville High; Breanne Koenigsberg and Dayna Lipkin, Browns Valley Elementary; Chris Marino and Junior Delgado, Jepson Middle; Renee Horsma and Tammy Mattson, Cooper Elementary; Megan Coxe and Barbara Richeal, Callison Elementary; Laura Vanhoy and Shannon Pike, Markham Elementary; and Annmarie Woehler and Beth Burbey, Padan Elementary.

 

Student Recognition

  • Cooper Elementary Principal Tina Ahn recognized Kara Trang, Cooper’s Outstanding Student.
  • Country High Principal Ami Blackstone recognized Chris Parker, Country High’s Outstanding Student.

School Reports and Presentations

  • Cooper Elementary School Report: Principal Tina Ahn, along with Cooper students, provided an overview of the school's mission, programs and activities. Mrs. Ahn also shared attendance rates, recent test scores, and the school’s PBIS program activities.

Staff Reports and Presentations

Human Trafficking Prevention Presentation: Assistant Superintendent Kim Forrest and Director of Student Attendance and Welfare Ramiro Barron provided information regarding Human Trafficking prevention, awareness, and training for students and staff in the district.

 

New Business – the following items were approved by the Board:

  1. Approval of Contract with Rainforth Grau for the Will C. Wood Administration Building HVAC Replacement Project.
  2. Approval of Agreement with de Rutte Builders Corporation for the Districtwide Water Fill Station Installation Project.
  3. Approval of Agreement with Tri-City Fence Company, Inc. for the Vacaville High School Baseball Field Fence Project.

The Board was also provided information on Buckingham Charter Magnet High School and Fairmont Charter Elementary School’s Educator Effectiveness Fund Expenditure Plan. Action on approval of the plan will be agendized under New Business at the March 1, 2018 Governing Board meeting.

  • Superintendent Shamieh acknowledged donations from staff and the public to district sites and programs and introduced newly-appointed administrators Ramiro Barron, Interim Director of Student Attendance and Welfare; Lauren Hylton, Special Education Coordinator; Lois Chancellor, Principal, Ernest Kimme Charter Academy for Independent Learning; and Cicely Rodda, Interim Principal, Padan Elementary School. Mrs. Shamieh also shared photos from several recent school site visits.

Staff Reports and Presentations

  • School Start Time Considerations for 2018-19: Chief Academic Officer Mark Frazier presented considerations and benefits of a later school start time for secondary students, along with staff recommendations for revised start times beginning in the 2018-19 school year.
  • Vacaville Teachers Association (VTA) Update: VTA President Tracy Begley shared information on the new member luncheon; VTA scholarship winners; September Educator of the Month, Betty Tracas; and VTA attendance at a recent Solano County Office of Education Board meeting.

New Business – the following items were approved by the Board:

  1. Approval of Resolution No. 1, 2017-18, Adopting the Gann Limit.
  2. Approval of Resolution No. 2, 2017-18, Applicability of City Building and Zoning Ordinances.
  3. Approval of Resolution No. 3, 2017-18, Recognizing National Suicide Prevention Week September 10-16, 2017.
  4. Approval of Unaudited Actuals for 2016-17.
  5. Approval of Staffing Contracts with StaffRehab, Ellen Hoke Corporation, Jabbergym, and AlphaVista Services, Inc.
