Measure V Update - September 2007
Students in Vacaville will soon enjoy the benefits of new track and field areas, improvements at Zunino Stadium, a new gymnasium, a new science building and renovated campuses as part of the ongoing construction at Vacaville Unified School District. The improvements are funded by Measure V, a $ 101.3 million general obligation bond which was approved by an overwhelming 68% of Vacaville's voters in November, 2001.
Members of the Board of Education, along with staff and media, toured construction sites on August 9, 2007. They visited the new Lower Field Project and New Science Building Project at Will C. Wood High School, Zunino Stadium at Vacaville High School, a new gymnasium and track/parking lot and driveway improvements at Vaca Pena Middle School, and major renovations at Padan and Hemlock Elementary Schools. Padan's renovation is almost complete, with only a covered lunch area remaining to be constructed. Hemlock's renovation project was completed in 2006.
Vacaville Unified School District Board Members tour Vaca Pena Middle School's new gymnasium.

Vaca Pena's new gym will be open on the first day of school later this month. The gym features a hardwood floor, electronic scoreboard and projector screen, sound system, bleachers for 400, electronically-powered basketball hoops, student restrooms, and equipment storage area. In addition to the new parking lot, track and field, and driveway improvements that will be completed this fall, the school will also undergo interior classroom renovations, scheduled to be complete by Fall, 2008.
New turf is irrigated at Will C. Wood High School's lower field project.

Will C. Wood High School's lower field is going through major improvements. In May, 2007, construction started. The existing field was cleared. New irrigation, highly effective drainage systems and new sod were added to the soccer/football field. A new ramp and stairs lead to the field from the parking lot above. New home-side bleachers with 400-person capacity will be added. New track and field areas and equipment, landscaping, new electronic marquee sign and a new scoreboard will complete the project. All of this will be complete in early fall. Students in physical education courses will use the track area only while the outer turf areas are being finished.
By next fall, Will C. Wood High School will have a new two-story 30,000 square foot science classroom building to be located in the front of the school. Currently the sitework is being done to prepare for the new Science Building. While a lot of dirt is being moved right now, the school entrance and driveways will all be ready for use for the first day of school.
The science building will have sixteen new classrooms and science labs with new science equipment for high-level learning, teachers' storage and conference area, and student restrooms. Construction on the science building is slated to begin on the building in late fall, 2007 and is scheduled for completion in fall, 2008. The school will also undergo major renovation of all classroom and other buildings, bringing the campus up to meet the educational challenges of the 21st century.
