June Superintendent's Memo

Table of contents It's June already!

Wow, it’s June already! At the end of each school year I’m always excited that we will send our graduates off to start a new life outside of high school and I’m pleased with the many accomplishments, achievements and successes that have occurred in every school and every department. If you take a moment to breathe and reflect back, I’m sure you can think of those successes of a personal nature, individual student successes, classroom successes, team successes and successes of the peer team you belong to. Even with all the depressing news about the economy, budgets, unemployment, foreclosures and all the rest, I know you have good memories that will linger for a lifetime.
For those of you who have experienced a layoff notice from our district, I’m sorry that you have to cope with the loss of your job here and all the frustration and anxiety that produces. I am hopeful that some of you will have the opportunity to return to the district next year.
If it is not possible for you to return next year, my hope for you is that you and your family will manage this immediate challenge and that you will rebound in a positive way. I know you have friends here and I hope you will speak positively about your school and the district in the future.
For those of you who are being displaced, I hope your move goes smoothly and that you’ll start the year with your students in a positive energetic way that will set the tone for the year.
For those of you retiring this year, I wish you the best in retirement. May you live long and prosper. Please stay in touch and if you are available to do some substituting and/or volunteering, you are most welcome and your contributions will be greatly appreciated.
For those of us returning next year, I hope that your summer is a good one and that you return with positive energy and a refreshed attitude and belief that our children deserve the very best from us. They deserve no less so that’s why you need to take good care of yourself. Besides, if you eat right, get some rest, exercise on a regular basis and avoid or limit potentially addicting substances in your system you look and feel better. And, you’ll have more energy to do the things you want to do. So, leading a healthy lifestyle is a win/win for everyone!
And for all of you, you’ve heard the saying, “stop and smell the roses”. I think we Californians sometimes rush from rose to rose thinking that we have to smell them all and sometimes miss out on the more important things in life. Ferris Bueller also said, “Life moves pretty fast so you better pay attention or you might just miss it”. So this summer, please take a little time and live in the present and enjoy the simpler things in life.
As we look ahead at next year’s calendar the new teachers will begin work on August 5th, returning teachers will start their new work year on August 9th and students return on Thursday, August 12th. Our Back to School Breakfast Workshop will be on Tuesday August 10th at Vacaville High School with the optional breakfast being served from 7:30 till 8:15 and the required Workshop starting at 8:30 AM. This year we will have another dynamic presenter with a focus on the importance of you and how your contributions to our children’s education are more important that ever.
Have a great summer and may every day be a Holiday and every meal a feast!
Sincerely,
John
